Martin Sawyer Calls for a Fair Deal for Northampton Communities after Levelling Up Snub
If the Northampton bid had been successful, it would have provided funding towards a new leisure, health and community facility in Weston Favell. This would have provided much needed improvements to health and leisure facilities for residents in an area often referred to as ‘a left behind area’.
Martin Sawyer, newly confirmed as the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Northampton North constituency after being elected by Liberal Democrat constituency members, responded: “This Conservative Government has chosen to ignore the needs of our local community. Had our bid been successful, the lives of people living in the Eastern District of Northampton and beyond would have been significantly improved.
“Instead, we have been left out and forced to fend for ourselves while the Prime Minister lines the pocket of his own area. It’s a disgrace.
“The best our Conservative run Council can respond with is ‘an expression of disappointment’! It’s just not good enough. This project is well overdue.
“The people of Northampton have been let down yet again, but the Liberal Democrats will ensure that the Government’s decision does not mean we are left behind. We will keep fighting for a fair deal for our community and my election as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Northampton North constituency has come at exactly the time the community needs to be heard. I promise to be that voice.”
