It is with great sadness that we report the Lib Dem light, and force of nature, that was Rod Kilvert, is no longer with us. His cancer diagnosis earlier in 2022 didn’t stop Rod from knocking on doors, campaigning for the Liberal Democrats, and maintaining a keen interest in local goings on. Rod Kilvert was Lib Dem Election Agent for South Northants and also served as a parish councillor in his home village of Potterspury.
“Rod touched a lot of people's lives,” said Stewart Tolley, fellow Lib Dem campaigner in Deanshanger Ward. “I have never met someone with so much commitment - who exceeded the youngest of us in energy levels when it came to campaigning - and who had a big heart as well.
“He was a great campaigner and a legend,” said Hazel Hewison, local Lib Dem councillor.
“I thought of Rod as the fount of knowledge,” said Kate Nash, local Lib Dem councillor, “always happy to be called and brain picked and he was always happy to pick up the phone and instruct me with what I should be doing. Rod always seemed to have several missions on the go at any one time, and was particularly watchful of local politics, ready to expose wrong or slipshod behaviour when he saw it.”
Potterspury Parish Council posted on Facebook, “Rod Kilvert served Potterspury as a much respected Parish Councillor for many years and was instrumental in numerous major improvement projects for the village, including the Skatepark and MUGA, the Outdoor Gym and refurbishing Blackwell End & Meadow View Play Areas.”
One Potterpury resident commented, “a great man and son of the village. thanks for all your work ‘our Rod’”
